Singapore fencers continue fine form at South-east Asian Junior & Cadet C'ships

SINGAPORE'S fencers continued their gold rush at the South-east Asian Junior & Cadet Championships in Brunei on Tuesday, taking another three golds.

The men's foil team - made up of Joshua Lim, Christian Lim, Jet Ng and Chan Wei Yu - thrashed their Vietnamese opponents 45-29 for the title.

Said national foil coach Simon Senft: "For us to beat Vietnam so convincingly is a big boost to our confidence as we continue to prepare for the upcoming Asian as well as World Junior & Cadet Championships in two months' time."

The women's sabre team comprising Felicia Yam, Christabel Yong, Lau Ywen and Jolie Lee also beat Vietnam 45-27 in the final.

Rania Rahardja, Donna Lim, Celine Chong and Elizabeth Lim then dug deep to beat Vietnam 45-41 in the women's epee team final.

Singapore currently have eight golds, three silvers and five bronzes. The event ends on Sunday.
