SINGAPORE - Swimmer and double Paralympic gold-medallist Yip Pin Xiu has been rewarded with one million KrisFlyer miles by Singapore Airlines (SIA).
A Facebook post by the Singapore Disability Sports Council on Tuesday (Sept 20) showed Yip, 24, being presented with the reward.
Yip, along with fellow swimmer Theresa Goh and the rest of Team Singapore's Paralympians, was also greeted with a banner, flowers, champagne and a cake by SIA staff during a stopover in Barcelona.
The contingent is due back in Singapore on Wednesday at 5.35am aboard SQ67. A welcome ceremony will take place at Changi Airport, followed by a celebratory parade on Saturday (Sept 24).
Yip and Goh, Singapore's only medallists at the Rio Paralympics, were also seated in first class.
Yip won two gold medals in the 50m and 100m backstroke S2 events - the latter in a world record time - while Goh, 29, clinched a bronze medal in the 100m breaststroke SB4.
Swimmer Joseph Schooling, who last month made history by becoming the first Singaporean to win an Olympic gold medal, also received similar treatment from SIA on his flight back to Singapore.
