SEA Games: Vietnam clinch men's artistic title as Singapore win first-ever men's team medal

Vietnam retained their artistic gymnastics men's team at the Bishan Sports Hall on Saturday. The champions' score of 344.700 points was too good for Thailand on 318.150, and Singapore, who just missed out on a silver by just 0.05 points.

Said Vietnam's top gymnast on the day Pham Phuoc Hung, 26: "I'm very happy with the win because we've never achieved such high scores before."

It was also a historic day for Singapore as it was the men's team's first podium finish in the history of the SEA Games. Their final score - 318.100 - was also their highest total so far.

"It is a big breakthrough for all of us," said team gymnast Timothy Tay, 22, "All the sacrifices we made feels worthwhile today. I think we really put on a good show today and I am really happy with the team."

With their first medal in the bag, the team are looking to add to it, with Hoe Wah Toon, 26, a good bet in the vault.
