School sports: RI complete sweep of A Division boys and girls basketball titles

SINGAPORE - Raffles Institution won both the Schools National A Division boys' and girls' basketball championships on Friday (May 20) at the Jurong East Sports Hall to claim their first double triumph in 16 years.

The girls went up against defending champions Hwa Chong Institution (HCI) and dominated throughout the game, winning 48-33.

RI also snapped HCI's three-year winning streak in the process for the school's first championship since 2012.

Their male counterparts had it tougher when they faced Pioneer Junior College in the boys' final. In a match with end-to-end action, the Rafflesians had to dig deep before beating their opponents 69-53 to retain their championship.

Rounding up the podium for the boys were Anderson Junior College in third and Nanyang Junior College behind them. Dunman High School took third spot for the girls', in front of fourth-placed Victoria Junior College.
