SINGAPORE - Junyuan Primary School overcame a two-point half-time deficit to beat Greendale Primary 14-11 to clinch the Singapore Press Holdings Foundation National Primary Schools Tchoukball Championships 2017 (Senior Boys).

The final, at Farrer Park Primary, started brightly for both teams, showcasing strong offence and defence.

With two minutes left to play in the half, the score was tied at five apiece. However, Greendale managed to pull away and lead 8-6 at the break, scoring after a rebound one second before the half ended.

Sloppy passes from both sides followed after the restart and both sides were held goal-less for two minutes. Junyuan were the first to break the deadlock but Greendale soon scored as well.

After more good defending from both sides, Junyuan came storming back and took the lead at 11-10 with two and a half minutes remaining. Greendale managed to level the match but Junyuan took the lead again and did not look back.

"I'm very proud of them (the boys), really, from the bottom of my heart," said their tchoukball teacher-in-charge Terence Khoo,26.

"For this team in the last three years they have competed in the nationals, and in their final year (this year) they have managed to clinch the national championship."
