School sports: Hwa Chong Institution continue to rule the waters of MacRitchie Reservoir

HWA Chong Institution (HCI) swept both the A Division Boys' and Girls' titles for the third consecutive year during the Schools National Canoeing Championships at MacRitchie Reservoir on Thursday afternoon.

HCI staved off intense competition from National Junior College (NJC), with the latter finishing runners-up in both categories.

Gan Eng Seng School (GESS) caused a stir in the Girls' C Division after they ended a 14-year drought to emerge triumphant for the first time since 2001.

They edged out Damai Secondary School (DMSS), who equalled their best-ever finish of second place dating back to 2006.

After finishing outside the top two back in 2013 for the first time since 1991, St Joseph's Institution (SJI) ensured their return to the top of the Boys' C Division pile was not a short-lived one after they won their second successive title in as many years.

It was business as usual in the B Division, with Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) (ACS(I)) and Temasek Secondary School (TSS) retaining their crowns in the Boys' and Girls' Championships respectively.
