School sports: ACS(I) beat Saints 12-5 to retain Schools' National A Div rugby title

Defending champions Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) beat rivals St Andrew's Junior College (SAJC) 12-5 at the Home Team Academy on Tuesday, retaining their Schools' National A Division rugby title.

"The Saints were definitely worthy opponents and it was a tough fight," said ACS(I) captain Isaiah Teh, 18.

Despite dominating the first half and going into a 7-0 lead, the ACSians could not wrap up the victory convincingly. They were rocked early in the second half when the Saints scored a try to reduce the deficit, but held on for the victory.

"We played our best and fought to the very end," said Saints captain Ryan Ong, 18, referring to their last-gasp attempt at a try, which ended just centimetres from the line.

With both A and B division rugby titles in the bag, ACS(I) are set to make a clean sweep at this year's Schools National rugby competition, barring a defeat to their youngest team. The C division rugby season starts in July.
