NANYANG Girls' High School (NYGH) and Hwa Chong Institution (HCI) were the big winners in Wednesday's Schools National Judo Team Championships finals at Hougang Secondary School.

NYGH snatched both the B and C Division titles from Raffles Girls' Secondary with narrow 3-2 wins, while HCI upset defending champions Raffles Institution (RI) in the C Division boys' final.

The only team to retain their title was HCI's A Division girls' team, who staged a comeback 3-2 win against RI. RI did win the A Division boys' title, beating HCI 3-2.

In the B Division boys' final, St. Gabriel's Secondary School (SGSS) defeated last year's winners RI 3-2 to regain the title they won in 2012.

Said SGSS captain Ryan Tay, 15: "Of course we're feeling happy about winning. We wanted to win, although we knew (the finals) could go any way, so we trained our hardest and hoped for the best."

The judo individual finals will take place on April 9.
