Schooling gets $75,000 from businessman

SINGAPORE swimmer Joseph Schooling was presented with $75,000 by businessman Pang Ching Keong at The Sultan hotel yesterday.

Pang, a former Basketball Association of Singapore vice-president, had pledged $20,000 per SEA Games gold medal from the athletes' fourth gold onwards, and $5,000 for a relay gold.

Schooling won all nine of his events (six individual, three relays).

Under the Singapore National Olympic Council's Multi-million Dollar Award Programme, athletes get rewards up to their third gold medal - $10,000 for the first and $5,000 each for the second and third.

Pang said he would get in touch with swimmers Tao Li and Quah Zheng Wen, who also won more than three individual gold medals.
