SINGAPORE - Four Singapore officials at the South-east Asian Sailing Championship in Sihanoukville, Cambodia have tested positive for Covid-19 a week into the event, Singapore Sailing Federation (SSF) executive director Terence Ho said on Friday (Dec 17).

Ho said: "They complied with all international travel protocols, which required a mix of PCR (polymerase chain reaction) and ART (Antigen Rapid Tests). Once in Cambodia, they followed the regime put in place by the host nation.

"The officials and athletes are in physically separate accommodation and do not inter-mingle at all.

"The positive cases remain isolated in their designated accommodation while the athletes remain in the athlete village and comply with the SSF and local safe management measures requirements. Both these accommodations are physically dislocated."

A total of five officials, seven athletes and one coach from Singapore are there for the Dec 12-17 regatta.

The officials reached Cambodia on Dec 6, while the athletes and their coach arrived on Dec 11. All are fully vaccinated and are expected to return on Dec 19 or Dec 20.

Of the four officials who tested positive, three are asymptomatic and one has recovered from a mild fever. The officials are awaiting a negative PCR test result before they can board the flight home, said Ho.

He added that none of the athletes have tested positive.

The youth sailors there competed in the International Laser Class Association and windsurfing events. Russell Yom finished first in the Laser 4.7 event while Lim Khoon Leng won the Laser Radial event. David Ng topped the youth windsurfing class, Techno 293.

The SSF are the co-organisers of the competition, along with the Cambodian Sailing Federation.
