FORMER Blackburn Rovers manager Steve Kean enjoyed a winning start to his time as coach of Brunei DPMM, after his side defeated Albirex Niigata 1-0 in a Great Eastern-Yeo's S-League match at the Jurong East Stadium on Saturday evening.

Brazilian midfielder Rodrigo Tosi scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot in the 15th minute, after he had been brought down by Albirex goalkeeper Kazuki Kishigami.

DPMM's star signing, former Sunderland striker Roy O'Donovan, came close to opening his S-League account in the second half, but his cushioned header bounced agonisingly wide.

Meanwhile, Hougang United and Woodlands Wellington played out a 2-2 draw at the Hougang Stadium. Igor Cerina and Fazli Jaffar were on target for the hosts, while Taufiq Ghani and Moon Soon Ho responded for the Rams.
