New Zealand rugby outfit The Blues have become the first sports team to win a competition at the newly-built National Stadium after emerging victorious in the final of the inaugural rugby World Club 10s tournament on Sunday.

The Auckland side saw off Australia's The Brumbies 10-5 in a match that went down to the wire after it stretched into additional time.

A Tom McCartney try hauled The Blues level after they had trailed to a Conrad Hoffmann try, before Jackson Willison sent his team-mates into raptures when he scored the winning try in the second period of extra time.

On Saturday, The Blues also became the first team to win a match at the 55,000-seater arena when they dispatched French side Biarritz Olympique 47-7 in the opening game of the two-day tournament.

Singapore forward Reiner Leong scored a total of three tries over two days for the Asia Pacific Dragons, who beat the Cardiff Blues 26-17 to take third place.
