Toyota's Sebastien Ogier seized the lead from teammate Kalle Rovanpera in the inaugural Rally of Paraguay to go into Sunday's final four stages with a 10.3-second advantage over Hyundai's Adrien Fourmaux.
Rovanpera had led overnight but suffered a puncture on Saturday's penultimate stage of the day that dropped the Finn to sixth.
The Encarnacion-based gravel rally ends on Sunday.
Eight-times world champion Ogier, who started the season as a part-timer but has been relishing the unplanned chance to chase a ninth crown, won four of the day's seven stages to Rovanpera's three.
"Of course, it's a shame to see your teammate having a puncture, and it's not the way you want to take the lead, but it looks like every frontrunner has had trouble except (Toyota's championship leader) Elfyn (Evans)," he said.
Welshman Evans was in third place with Hyundai's Ott Tanak fourth and just 2.5 seconds behind after a rear-left puncture on the longest stage.
Evans is three points clear of Rovanpera in the standings with Ogier a further 10 behind after nine of 14 rounds. REUTERS
