The Singapore Olympic Foundation-Peter Lim Scholarship is inviting young athletes to apply for the scholarship from Jan 2-30.

Funded by Singaporean tycoon Peter Lim, the scholarship was started in 2011 and has handed out over $2.8 million to more than 1,000 scholars in Singapore.

It has four tiers - primary, secondary, tertiary and for high performance athletes under the age of 18. Scholarship amounts range from $1,000 to $5,000 and provides financial assistance to outstanding young athletes from financially-challenged backgrounds, to help in their pursuit of sporting excellence.

This year, recipients included Youth Olympic Games shooting silver medallist Martina Lindsay Veloso and sailors Raynn Kwok and Loh Jia Yi.

Said Mr Ng Ser Miang, chairman of the Singapore Olympic Foundation: "With the generous support of Mr Peter Lim, many young athletes have benefited from the Singapore Olympic Foundation-Peter Lim Scholarship. We encourage all aspiring athletes to apply for the Scholarship and hope to reach out to more young Singaporeans to help them to achieve their sporting dreams."
