Paddler Feng Tianwei beats China world No.1 Ding Ning to reach final of Kuwait Open

Singapore's top paddler Feng Tianwei beat China's world No.1 Ding Ning in the semi-finals of the Kuwait Open for a berth in the final.

Feng, the world No.6, beat Ding 11-8, 5-11, 5-11, 12-10, 11-9, 8-11, 11-3 on Monday afternoon (Singapore time).

This is just the second time in 14 meetings that Feng, the 2012 London Olympics bronze medallist, has beaten Ding. The last time Feng defeated her Chinese opponent was at the 2010 World Team Table Tennis Championships in Moscow, when Singapore was crowned world champion over powerhouse China.

Feng will face world No.2 Liu Shiwen at 8.30pm tonight (Singapore time).
