SINGAPORE - Mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Ben Askren is confident of extending his undefeated streak when he defends his welterweight title at One Championship's Dynasty of Heroes event at the Singapore Indoor Stadium next Friday.
The 32-year-old American, who has a 15-0 win-loss record, will face Malaysia's Agilan Thani (7-0).
Speaking to The Straits Times in a phone interview from his Wisconsin base on Wednesday (May 17), Askren said: "He's young and he's coming up and he might be great someday, but I keep telling people May 26 is not going to be his day - May 26 is going to be a very tough day in the life of Agilan Thani.
"I'm looking forward to all of it. I love to compete and I haven't been able to compete recently, so I'm really excited for it."
The former wrestler's last fight was in April last year, where he beat Russia's Nikolay Aleksakhin by unanimous decision at the One Championship Global Rivals event.
The bout between Askren and Thani is the co-main fight at the Dynasty of Heroes event. The other co-main event will take place between welterweight world champion Angela Lee and challenger Istela Nunes.
