Golfer Rory McIlroy has called off his engagement to tennis player Caroline Wozniacki on May 21, 2014, after a relationship that lasted two years and nine months. The couple had been engaged since the start of the year, and invitations to their wedding had been sent out.
"The problem is mine. The wedding invitations issued at the weekend made me realise I wasn't ready for all that marriage entails," McIlroy said in a statement.
The couple's relationship was not exactly a smooth-sailing one, with break-up rumours spreading towards what would apparently be their final few months together. We look at the ups and downs of this sports power couple through the years:
McIlroy and Wozniacki meet at a boxing match in Germany. According to the Daily Mail Online, Wozniacki tweets this after the match: "Fantastic fight! Also met Rory McIlroy, who was sitting just behind me :) Really down to earth great guy :)"
Around this time, Wozniacki was the world's top tennis player while McIlroy was fourth in golf.
The couple reportedly starts dating.

"Wozzilroy" is official, with the name engraved on a golf club McIlroy had made for Wozniacki.
The happy couple spend their first New Year together in Thailand and send out a tweet to their fans worldwide.
