Make use of sports centres islandwide

The Sports Hub is not the only place where you can engage in sports and recreational water activities. You can do the same at the 20 ActiveSG sports centres around the island. These are integrated complexes comprising various facilities such as stadiums, swimming complexes and sports halls.

Some of the more unusual ones include the Ang Mo Kio, Clementi and Jurong West swimming complexes, where you can get a gym workout by the pool. Stationary bicycles and other gym equipment are available by the poolside.

It is not just the sports facilities that beckon at these centres. There are outdoor dining areas at Jurong West, Yio Chu Kang and Woodlands swimming complexes too.

"The set-up of alfresco dining areas is part of an effort to utilise the facilities and spaces in creative ways," said Mr Simon Tan, deputy director of club design and planning at ActiveSG Sport Singapore.

"These areas will soon be fitted with new barbecue pits to further enhance members' experience."

And if you head to the swimming complexes in Choa Chu Kang, Jurong East, Jurong West, Pasir Ris and Sengkang, you will find unique "feature pools". They boast features such as slides, jacuzzis, and splash-and-slide areas, said Mr Tan, adding that such pools have been popular with visitors.

ActiveSG sports centres are also introducing new activities. Some offerings include aqua-spinning and Urban Trekking.

Aqua-spinning involves cycling on stationary bicycles in the shallow end of the pool to music. It is offered at the Clementi and Sengkang swimming complexes.

Meanwhile, the Urban Trekking programme is a walking exercise that makes use of specially designed poles and specific techniques to help you lose weight and tone up. It is available only at Delta Sports Centre.
