No S'poreans in last eight; coach highlights need to improve physique and technique

Outclassed, outwitted and outlasted. The Republic had shuttlers in all five events of the Singapore Badminton Open yesterday, but all of them crashed out of the tournament after losing their matches.

Men's doubles pair Danny Bawa Chrisnanta and Terry Hee came the closest to making the last eight, but fell 21-18, 21-18 in 36 minutes to Thailand's Tinn Isriyanet and Kittisak Namdash. The local duo blew a 7-1 lead in the second game. A service error by Chrisnanta at 17-18 gave the Thais the psychological upper hand to finish off the match.
