Needing three points to keep their Malaysia Cup hopes on track, the LionsXII produced a 1-0 victory over Sarawak at Jalan Besar Stadium.

With the visitors putting up a stout defence, the deadlock was broken in the 63rd minute when centre-back Baihakki Khaizan brought the ball out of defence and picked out striker Fazrul Nawaz, who calmly placed the ball into the bottom corner.

The hosts started without influential skipper Shahril Ishak, who is still recovering from injury, but the 29-year-old appeared after half-time as the LionsXII poured men forward in search of the winner.

With the win, V. Sundramoorthy's men move up to second place in Group D on seven points, trailing leaders Sarawak on goal difference and staying one notch above Perak on a superior goal difference. Kedah are bottom but trail the pack by just one point and will meet the LionsXII in Alor Star on Saturday for the group's finale.
