Olympic swimming champion Joseph Schooling will return to Singapore in May to join mixed martial arts (MMA) world champion Angela Lee's entourage during the One: Dynasty of Heroes event at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

Lee, who is of Singaporean and Korean descent, will defend her One Championship atomweight belt against Brazil's Istela Nunes, 24, in a five-round bout on May 26.

Both Lee (7-0) and Nunes (5-0) will enter the fight with perfect professional MMA records.

Last year in Singapore, the 20-year-old Lee beat Mei Yamaguchi to become One Championship's first female world champion and also the youngest winner of an MMA world title.

She said: "I am very happy to be including Joseph Schooling in my walkout as I defend my world title for the second time, this time right here in Singapore.

"I can't wait to hear the roar of the crowd as their two champions walk out to the cage, one holding the One Championship belt and the other with the Singapore national flag."

Schooling, 21, is a big MMA fan and went to UFC Fight Night 104 in Houston last month.

The University of Texas junior said that One Championship approached him to do a walkout during last November's event in Singapore, but he could not accept the invitation owing to school commitments. The 100m butterfly Olympic gold medallist did participate in a sparring session with Lee then and is delighted to be a part of her second title defence.

Lee retained her title with a technical knockout win over Chinese Taipei's Jenny Huang earlier this month in Thailand.

Schooling said: "This time around, I definitely do not want to miss the chance to walk alongside Angela Lee, as she defends her title against Istela Nunes. I am looking forward to the event - it will definitely be spectacular."
