SINGAPORE'S two Paralympic medallists were on Wednesday presented the Outstanding Athlete Award at the Singapore Disability Sports Council's 40th anniversary charity dinner and Sports Awards Night 2014.
Held at the Raffles City Convention Centre, equestrienne Laurentia Tan, who won a silver and a bronze at the 2012 Paralympics, and swimmer Yip Pin Xiu, who clinched a gold and a silver at the 2008 Games, were presented their awards by President Tony Tan Keng Yam.
Nine other para-athletes - Theresa Goh (swimming), Jovin Tan, Desiree Lim (both para-sailing), Muhammad Firdaus (athletics), Nurulsyiqah Mohd Taha (boccia), Tay Wei Ming and Kelvin Pung (badminton) - were also honoured with meritorious awards.
Meanwhile, Acting Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Lawrence Wong announced that his ministry has started recruiting organising committee members for next December's Asean Para Games - which Singapore will host for the first time.
Mr Wong will serve as its chairman while MCCY Senior Parliamentary Secretary Sam Tan will be his deputy.
