The Straits Times Run on Sept 23 will be especially memorable for Irfan Noor.
Not only will he celebrate his 31st birthday that day, but he will also have his mother alongside him when he competes in the event.
The tuition teacher was one of three winners of the ST Run Mother's Day Giveaway announced yesterday. Contestants were required to submit a photo of themselves with their mums with the caption "I Love You, Mum".
The winners each took home a Back Zen by iZest back massager worth $499 each and a pair of ST Run race entries for any category.
Irfan said: "I took part because I wanted to repay my mother in a small way, as she had given so much to take care of and raise me and my four siblings.
"I'm happy that I won and I'm looking forward to creating more happy memories on my birthday by keeping fit with my mum at the ST Run."
The other winners were Yeo Buck Huat, a 51-year-old who works in the logistics industry, and administrator Lee Poh Lin, 45.
Yeo submitted a picture of himself on a motorcycle with his mother riding pillion. He said: "On the last day of the contest, I managed to find the picture, taken a few years ago, which I found interesting.
"My mother does not move too freely now, and requires a walking stick, so I will be taking part in the ST Run with my son, but I hope the massager will come in handy for her."
Lee added: "I will make use of the ST Run slots to take part with my husband."
This year's ST Run comprises three categories, 5km, 10km and 18.45km. Registration is $50, $60 and $70 respectively. Past participants enjoy a Loyal Runner rate and need to pay only $38, $48 and $58 respectively.
