SEPANG - Singaporean kart driver Daim Hishammudin started the defence of his Asian junior karting crown brightly on Sunday, finishing tops in the opening race of this year's Rotax Max Asia Championship.
The 14-year-old clocked 16min 38.64sec over 20 laps to finish ahead of Malaysia's Mitchell Cheah and Muhammad Luqman Hakim.
Daim had started the final on pole after winning the pre-finals, and led the race from start to finish.
He said: "The kart felt really good (apart from Heat 1 when he finished fourth) and I was able to put in a really good drive. The team responded well when we had issues in Heat 1 and we were able to overcome the initial technical challenge.
"It is still early days and we must continue to focus and take each race as it comes."
Daim is under the Caterham F1 development programme.
