The Indianapolis Colts activated Tyquan Lewis from injured reserve on Saturday and waived fellow defensive end Genard Avery.
Lewis was placed on injured reserve on Oct 1 with an elbow injury he sustained two days earlier in the Colts' 27-24 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers. He is questionable to play for Indianapolis (5-6) in Sunday's game against the visiting Detroit Lions (9-1).
Lewis, 29, started the first four games of the season and recorded 17 tackles and 1½ sacks.
He has 112 tackles, 15 sacks, 10 passes defensed and one interception in 69 games (20 starts) since the Colts selected him in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft out of Ohio State.
Avery, 29, played in one game for the Colts this season.
He has totaled 106 tackles, 8.5 sacks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery in 63 games (17 starts) with the Cleveland Browns, Philadelphia Eagles, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Colts.
The Colts also elevated guard Atonio Mafi to the active roster from the practice squad for Sunday's game. REUTERS
