SINGAPORE - Local hockey fans will get a sneak preview of the Olympic women's hockey tournament when the inaugural The Project Group (TPG) International Tri-Series tournament begins on Monday.
The triangular, which takes place at the Sengkang Hockey Stadium, will feature world No. 1 and Olympic champions the Netherlands, No. 3 Australia and No. 9 Germany.
The three teams have already arrived in Singapore and are using the tournament to tune up for the Aug 5-21 Rio Games.
They will compete in a round-robin format where each team will face each other twice in what TPG chief executive Paul Lim described at a Wednesday media event as a "showcase tournament".
The tournament runs till Jan 23, with matches starting at 7pm each day. Entry is free.
The Australian women's team, who are sponsored by TPG, were at Sengkang Hockey Stadium on Wednesday evening to conduct a clinic with the TPG Academy Elite players, who consist of national team players, and girls under the TPG Academy Development Squad.
