SINGAPORE - Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Grace Fu will be in Brazil from Thursday (Sept 15) to Saturday for the Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, the ministry announced in a release on Wednesday.

Singapore sent 13 athletes across six sports to the Paralympics, which began last week (Sept 7).

The youngest on the team, 19-year-old long jumper Suhairi Suhaini, touched down in Singapore on Wednesday morning, while the main contingent will return next Wednesday (Sept 21).

A welcome ceremony will take place at Changi Airport.

President Tony Tan Keng Yam and Ms Fu were in Brazil last month, cheering on Singapore Olympians in August.

"Every Team Singapore athlete has overcome immense challenges in life to represent our nation at the Paralympics," said Ms Fu in the release.

"They have inspired all of us with their determination to succeed against all odds."

She will be accompanied by MCCY and Sport Singapore officials.
