FOUR wheels good, two wheels better. Particularly if you want to get a close-up look of the Marina Bay Street Circuit, the venue of the Formula One SingTel Singapore Grand Prix.

Ten Straits Times readers will win a chance to cycle around the 5.073-km track with triple Tour de France Green Jersey winner Robbie McEwen on Sept 22, the morning of the grand prix. As long as you can cycle and own a bike and helmet, you are welcome to join.

The UBS Cycle the Circuit contest is organised by the Swiss bank and Singapore GP, organiser of the sport's only night F1 race. They have partnered The Straits Times as part of its ST Appreciates Readers (Star) programme to reach out to the community.

There will also be one top prize of an "Ultimate UBS cycling & F1 experience". This will see the contestant with the best entry winning a chance to go on a 50km ride with Australian McEwen on the morning of Sept 20.

This new element of the contest, which is into its second year, will appeal especially to a serious amateur cyclist as the group will be riding hard, at about 32kmh.

"Cycling is fast becoming one of the country's most popular sports, both in terms of participation and following," said Caroline Darcy, UBS' head of sponsorship Asia Pacific. "Such an opportunity to ride with - and learn from - a professional of a stature such as Robbie McEwen's on Singapore's busy streets is extremely hard to come by.

"As global partner of F1, we wanted to bring unique experiences to our clients and the Singapore community.

"We encourage all Straits Times readers to try for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity."

In addition, the top prize winner will also receive a pair of tickets to the Stamford Grandstand (only on Sept 21-22), including access to UBS F1 hospitality.

All 10 contest winners will also receive an exclusive UBS Cycle the Circuit cycling kit.

Entering the contest is easy. Just tell us - in a photo or video - why you want to participate in the race.

The photo should be of you with your bike (accompanying caption should be less than 50 words; file size should be 1MB max).

The video (less than 30 seconds) should also have you with your bike.

E-mail your entries to: stsportscontest@sph.com.sg by noon, Sept 15. Include your name, NRIC, mailing address, mobile number, e-mail address and date of birth.

The header for your e-mail entry should be titled "UBS Cycle the Circuit contest".
