A lack of self-belief is a label that rarely applies to Rory McIlroy but even the Northern Irish golf star had his moments of doubt before last month's stunning victory at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, where he fired a bogey-free final-round 64 to win by three strokes.

He had gone 18 months without a win prior to that triumph, an eternity for someone with his talent and who had won 10 times worldwide, including two Majors, between 2014 and 2016.
