LOS ANGELES (REUTERS) - Ryan Palmer recorded nine birdies, including six in his last seven holes, to move into a tie with Harris English for the third-round lead at the Sentry Tournament of Champions at Kapalua, Hawaii, on Saturday (Jan 9).

Palmer, who began the day in a four-way tie for second, fired a nine-under 64 to move to 21-under for the tourney.

English, who led by two shots after two rounds, had seven birdies on Saturday, and like Palmer, had nothing worse than pars all day long.

Collin Morikawa and Daniel Berger, who also were among the four players tied for second as Saturday dawned, hung close to the leaders.

Morikawa shot his second consecutive 65, with eight birdies on Saturday, to sit alone in third place at 20-under. Berger's day included six birdies en route to a six-under 67, leaving him by himself in fourth at 18-under.

Im Sungjae of South Korea and Justin Thomas had more eventful trips around the Kapalua Plantation Course. They finished the day tied for fifth at 17-under.

Im posted an eagle 3 on the fifth hole, bogeyed No. 8, came back with a birdie on No. 9 and then finished his round with birdies on four of his final five holes.

Thomas, the other golfer who began the day tied for second, had a wild front nine. He posted birdies on the second, eighth and ninth holes, but in between, he had a three-hole stretch of bogey-eagle-double bogey. He had three birdies on the back nine.

Billy Horschel fired a seven-under 66 to finish at 203, tied for seventh with Patrick Cantlay and Joaquin Niemann of Chile.
