WASHINGTON (REUTERS) - Wei-Ling Hsu fired a five-under 66 on Thursday (May 20) to take a one-shot lead after the first round of the Pure Silk Championship at Williamsburg, Virginia.

Hsu of Chinese Taipei finished her opening round with a clean scorecard, posting five birdies on the day at the Kingsmill Resort Golf Course. She strung together three straight birdies on the back nine to boost her round.

"Definitely feel really good, and I didn't really think about this much, but had a good iron into the green today and couple - I mean, a lot of birdie chances," Hsu said.

"So I just kept waiting, and finally when I make a turn like three birdies in a row on the back nine, which is 12, 13, 14. So that three in a row really changed the score."

Hsu leads a group of five players tied for second at four under and another five players at three under.

Luna Sobron Galmes, Kelly Tan, Jeon Ji-won, Kim Sei-young and Liu Ruixin shot 67 to trail Hsu by one stroke after 18.

Galmes of Spain had a chaotic day, carding an eagle, five birdies against three bogeys.

Malaysian Tan opened with three birdies on her first four holes en route to five for her round.

"I think first of all it was a really good ball striking day, and I gave myself a lot of chances on the greens. Made five birdies and took care of the par-5s," she said.

"And, yeah, just was really fun out there today and I like the chances that I had."

Defending champion Bronte Law shot a 7-over 78 and is tied for 129th.
