The ongoing Festival of Football at the Singapore Sports Hub promises to charm more than just football fans. The fiesta, which will run at the OCBC Square till July 30, will feature popular local musicians Jack and Rai on Saturday at 8pm.

They will entertain the crowds - which have numbered more than 20,000 since the event began on June 14 - ahead of the first round of 16 game between France and Argentina at 10pm.

Undergraduate Khairul Anwar Mohd Mashren feels musical performances at a sports screening event will help liven up the atmosphere. The 24-year-old said: "The comedy and musical line-ups allow fans to relax in a lighter atmosphere before the tense competitive nature of the World Cup.

"It is a different form of entertainment and keeps us plugged in throughout the evening."

From part-time musicians playing covers at local pubs in 2002, Jack and Rai have become full-time artists who are one of the most popular acts on the live performance circuit.

Jack Ho, 41, one half of the duo, believes that music and sport are two elements that cannot do without each other.

He said: "We are there to liven up the atmosphere before games, and we are proud to be the showcase of arts and sports blending together."

Comedian Rishi Budhrani, the first Singaporean winner of the Hong Kong International Comedy Competition in 2012, performed at the OCBC Square last Sunday.

The 34-year-old said: "It was heartening to see different people from all walks of life get together in good spirits to watch the World Cup and enjoy the entertainment lined up at the festival.

"This is a great night out for anyone. If you are out for a drink with friends or if you are with your family, you can come here. Even if you are out on a date, you can come here to the festival. There is just something for everybody here."
