Getting ready for the final leg

Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Lawrence Wong lighting the SEA Games torch at the Promontory @ Marina Bay before it was passed to six torch- bearers for a 2.5km parade around the bay yesterday. This was the final community event before the lighting of the cauldron at tonight's opening ceremony at the National Stadium.

Ultra-marathoners Yong Yuen Cheng and Lim Nghee Huat, who ran 2,500km over 50 days to commemorate Singapore's golden jubilee, kindled the flame in the morning.

It has been retired to a safety lantern before tonight's final torch relay.
