Touring car race in S'pore GP

MOTOR-RACING fans can look forward to a new support race in September's Formula One Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix.

The TCR International Series, a new touring car championship, will make its debut at the Sept 18-20 Singapore GP at the Marina Bay Street Circuit, joining the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia as its official support race.

The 11-round global series was featured in two other F1 race weekends in Malaysia and China.

It features drivers such as Gianni Morbidelli, 47, who started 67 F1 races between 1990 and 1997. He drives a Honda Civic TCR for Sweden's West Coast Racing.

The current series leader is Switzerland's Stefano Comini, 25, who races a four-cylinder turbo Seat Leon for Italian team Target Competition, and has taken three wins to date.

Singapore GP deputy chairman Colin Syn said: "The new TCR International Series, together with Porsche Carrera Cup Asia, will ensure there's plenty happening on track at the Singapore Grand Prix."

Tickets for the Singapore GP are available for sale at www.singaporegp.sg, via the ticketing hotline 6738-6738, as well as all authorised ticketing agents.
