Everyone loves a close race, and after the first two phases of the Austrian Grand Prix suggested yet another Max Verstappen walkover, many began to think that Red Bull had found the solution to the recent handling problems that had enabled others – most notably McLaren – to aspire to beat them.

And for a while we really did have a humdinger in the final phase after both Verstappen and closest rival Lando Norris pitted for the last time on lap 51 for some fresh medium tyres.
