Finally, Lewis Hamilton looks like his old self at British GP

By pure happenstance I ventured into Mercedes’ hospitality area on July 6 afternoon to shelter from Silverstone’s latest downpour, and watched new sensation Andrea Kimi Antonelli really arrive on the world stage with a brilliant F2 victory.

At one stage I was joined by a senior staff member and we talked about how George Russell and Lewis Hamilton had just annexed the front row of the grid for the British Grand Prix in their born-again Mercedes W15s. We agreed that Russell had done an excellent job, and when I asked about Hamilton’s performance, my companion suggested that all he really needed now was to get his confidence back.
