SINGAPORE - It has hosted football stars like Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea and celebrities such as actor Chris Hemsworth and singer-rapper Jay Park.

And on July 15, 60 subscribers of The Straits Times will get to attend an exclusive viewing party for the World Cup final at 1-Altitude, the highest alfresco bar in the world.

The partnership between ST - which coincidentally turns 173 that day - and the bar will see invitees treated to a free flow of beer, soft drinks and bar snacks. They can even hit the dance floor if they feel the need to shake off their excitement.

Besides the action on the pitch, they can also take in the sights because at 282m - or 62 floors - high, the rooftop bar offers a spectacular unobstructed view of the city from its 1 Raffles Place location.

Each invitee will be allowed to bring one other person for the screening, which will begin one hour ahead of the 11pm kick-off.

ST editor Warren Fernandez said: "It has been an exciting World Cup Finals this year, and what better way to round it off than with a party to watch the critical concluding game with some of our ST subscribers.

"In addition to the football action, the stunning view of the Singapore skyline and some good food and drinks should all make for a very memorable evening for everyone.

"ST has many friends and partners, like 1-Altitude, and this is what helps us make such events possible for our loyal subscribers."

Ian Sim, 1-Altitude's director of nightlife operations, added: "ST viewers can expect a one-of-a-kind experience under the stars.

"Soak up the high-octane atmosphere, indulge in good food and drinks, with us."

The bar's iconic layout and location have been lauded not just locally but also by international media and publications. In an article titled "Top of the world: Drink at one of Asia's highest bars" last year, CNN Travel noted:"If the neon lighting doesn't give it away, the bar is best known for its swanky parties, live music and DJ nights - getting progressively clubbier as the night goes on.

"It's also a top spot for sunsets, though it's best to make reservations in advance to ensure a table."

It was also once rated among Asia's top five rooftop bars by Lifestyle Asia Hong Kong.
