DOHA – Private-hire driver Sinaveshan Selvamuthu is taking me down Salwa Road, a major, eight-lane highway that cuts through the centre of Doha.

“All these roads you see here,” he says, as he points out the car window, “were not here when I first came here. All the roads were narrow, sometimes I would not even want to drive in certain places.”
