Waiting for The Messi Moment is one of sports' greatest pleasures

Lionel Messi is a minimalist. Three-and-a-half steps are all he takes. Less than a second is all he needs. In that distance and time he can make commentators dance in praise, a rival manager smile and a random person write on Twitter: "There must be a school subject called Messi. This guy needs to be studied."

But after nearly 80 minutes of Liverpool vs Barcelona we're not there yet. So far Messi has only been very good, though this requires qualification. Messi's version of "very good" is the equivalent of most players' "great". He's Elvis, they're Bono.
