Violence out, respect for referees in

Irish police, the "Gardai", on Wednesday arrested four men charged with beating up an amateur referee and leaving him needing five hours of surgery on a jaw broken in two places, multiple cheek bone fractures, a damaged eye socket, and a badly cut nose.

"I bear no animosity towards them," said the referee, Daniel Sweeney, from his hospital bed.
