BERLIN • Germany football captain Bastian Schweinsteiger has been offered a two-year contract to join Manchester United, according to German daily Bild yesterday.
The 30-year-old is reported to have been offered a salary of around €10 million (S$14.9 million) per year - what the Bayern Munich vice-captain currently earns.
Schweinsteiger - who has 111 caps for Germany and has made 342 appearances for Bayern - still has a year left on his contract and is expected to take part with Bayern in a four-team tournament in Moenchengladbach tomorrow.
However, Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said on Thursday: "I have spoken to Bastian on the phone while we have been on holiday ... I cannot deny the fact that I have understood during these conversations that he is flattered by the interest from England."
United manager Louis van Gaal is looking to add experience to a squad who are set to lose experienced striker Robin van Persie, who is close to agreeing a £4.7 million (S$9.7 million) move to Turkish side Fenerbahce.
He is the third forward to leave United this summer after Radamel Falcao's and Angelo Henriquez's moves to Chelsea and Dinamo Zagreb respectively.
