GRIEZMANN PENS CONTRACT EXTENSION

Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann has signed a one-year extension to his contract, the club president said, keeping the player at the LaLiga side through to 2022 and seemingly ending what was shaping up to be one of the transfer sagas of the summer.

Griezmann, 26, had been heavily linked to Europa League winners Manchester United in recent weeks.

Spanish media said the French forward's new contract made him the highest-paid player in the club's history, with an annual salary of around €14 million (S$21 million).

JUVENTUS KEEPING TABS ON MAHREZ

Italian Serie A champions Juventus are said to be targeting Leicester winger Riyad Mahrez, in the event that they are unable to agree a deal with Bayern Munich for Brazilian winger Douglas Costa, according to the Mirror.

The 26-year-old Mahrez had previously declared that he wants to leave Leicester. Premier League champions Chelsea and Arsenal were linked with the Algerian international, but it was believed that they are unwilling to pay the £50 million (S$87 million) demanded by Leicester.
