The new Manchester United are the old United, running on the optimism, the daredevil spirit, that Matt Busby - never mind Alex Ferguson - ingrained in the club.

Surely the money men, executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward and owners the Glazer family, will not muck this up from here? In pounds and pence (the language they understand) sacking Jose Mourinho and his entourage cost £19.6 million (S$34.6 million) - and the restorative process under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will save them 10 to 20 times that sum in terms of the way that players written off by Mourinho have been restored right throughout the team.
