Lippi to earn about €20m a year as China team boss

BEIJING • Marcello Lippi will earn almost €4.5 million (S$6.83 million) a year as China's national team coach but will pocket far more through a tie-in with a football academy, reported CCTV yesterday.

Guangzhou Evergrande's football academy will pay "Lippi and his team" €15.5 million annually to act as official "advisers".


Lee keeps rival at Bay for third LPGA title

BEIJING • Australia's Minjee Lee beat back stiff competition from rivals to land her third LPGA victory at the Blue Bay tournament on China's Hainan Island yesterday. She carded a two-under 70 to win by one stroke at 13-under 275, one ahead of American Jessica Korda (71) and two ahead of Thailand's Ariya Jutanugarn (70).


Sutton believes Team Sky will be cleared

LONDON • Shane Sutton, the former British Cycling technical director, is confident Team Sky and the national governing body have nothing to hide amid an ongoing investigation by UK Anti-Doping (Ukad).

A furore has erupted over the decision to seek permission for Bradley Wiggins to use triamcinolone and Ukad is investigating.
