Fekir for Reds is 'fake news': Lyon

PARIS • French Ligue 1 football club Lyon yesterday decried media reports that Liverpool's £53 million (S$95 million) deal for captain Nabil Fekir was imminent, calling it "fake news".

The 24-year-old, who is in France's 23-man World Cup squad, is wanted by Liverpool to fill the void left by January's sale of Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona.


EPL chairman Scudamore to quit

LONDON • Richard Scudamore, a driving force behind the growth of the English Premier League, said on Thursday that he was quitting as executive chairman at the end of the year.

The 58-year-old was also the league's chief executive from 1999-2014. The latest EPL deal has reached £5.14 billion (S$9.2 billion), a stark contrast to the £670 million when Scudamore first arrived.


Kane inks new deal with Tottenham

LONDON • Tottenham striker Harry Kane yesterday signed a new contract with the Premier League club, extending his tenure by two years to 2024.

The 24-year-old England captain, who scored 30 league goals last season, was previously on a six-year deal signed in 2016.
