Bryant buoyed by medical clearance

LOS ANGELES • National Basketball Association superstar Kobe Bryant has been medically cleared for all basketball activities when the Los Angeles Lakers open training camp this month.

Bryant, who suffered a torn rotator cuff in his right shoulder in January, appears to be on schedule to recover from a third straight season-ending injury.

Shaw's second bout of surgery scheduled

LONDON • Manchester United's Luke Shaw was slated to undergo a second operation in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, yesterday after breaking his right leg in two places in Tuesday's 1-2 Champions League loss to PSV Eindhoven.

The Premier League club are reportedly keen to bring the player back to England this weekend should the second operation be successful.

Chen, Momota clash in Seoul semi-final

SEOUL • Badminton's world No. 1 Chen Long outclassed South Korea's Son Wan Ho 25-23, 21-13 to reach the men's singles semi-final of the Korea Open Superseries yesterday.

The Chinese faces Japan's world No. 4 Kento Momota - who beat Hong Kong's Wei Nan 21-13, 21-16 - next.

The other semi-final will be between India's Ajay Jayaram, who defeated Japan's Sho Sasaki 21-19, 16-21, 21-16, and Chinese Taipei's Chou Tien-chen, who edged out China's Tian Houwei 21-19, 21-19.
