Ex-player Mendieta also backs Griezmann, Bale to light up LaLiga with Ronaldo's exit

In the aftermath of Spain's last-16 loss to hosts Russia at the recent World Cup, the Spanish media used damning words such as "stupid", "negligent" and the "end of an era" to describe La Roja's demise.

However, former Spain international Gaizka Mendieta believes that the performance of Sergio Ramos and Co were "not as worrying" as they were in the 2014 edition in Brazil, where the then-world and European champions crashed out in the group stage.
