The enduring images of Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal career are not of any of the 81 goals. Nor, arguably, of him lifting the one trophy, the first in his country's history.

They are of him seemingly supplanting his manager in the Euro 2016 final, urgently dispensing instructions from the technical area. A few metres away was coach Fernando Santos, but Ronaldo, 33, has a tendency to upstage everyone around him.
