Manchester City still had a nine-point lead at the top of the table when Pep Guardiola looked at their closest rivals and described Liverpool as a pain in the backside.

It was the sort of comment that appealed to Jurgen Klopp. His aim, he has said, is to be as "annoying as possible" to City.
