Money talks, yes, but it risks turning the game into a circus

In its insatiable pursuit of riches, sport puts greed before need. Football clubs follow the lead of Fifa by chasing the money and putting star players into some dubious and disturbing places.

Gianni Infantino, the president elected to clean up the world governing body, inherited the potential nightmare of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. But he has tried, and will try again until he gets his way, to enlarge the Finals from 36 to 48 national teams.
